Optoelectronic Signal Matrix
R.I. MacDonaldFrontier of Quantum Electronics, February 11, 1996
We describe an optoelectronic technique for performing the inner product between a vector of broadband signals and a matrix of weights. Photodetectors with controllable sensitivity establish the weight-values. The conversion between optical intensity modulation signals and electronic photocurrent signals in the detectors allows the low-crosstalk advantage of optical signal distribution to be combined with lossless summation of photo-current signals to provide the inner product function up to very high frequencies.
