Membership is ideally suited to companies adopting an “open” innovation model that interleaves both internal and external sources of innovation to optimize and accelerate the development of new products and services.

A TRLabs partner is forward-thinking and embraces collaboration that leverages research dollars and expertise. Participation in the R&D program brings with it a strategic view of the future, access to new technologies with strong market potential, hands-on participation in a Network of the Future research program, and research project and hiring access to highly skilled graduating students. TRLabs partners pool their resources (monetary, personnel, equipment and services) and jointly influence and pursue research priorities, direction, and activities. Industry, university and college affiliates, and government partners each uniquely contribute.

Building and strengthening our mix of industry members to enhance research activity and output is an ongoing high priority at TRLabs. Industry members join us via one of three types of membership:

• Charter - for large enterprises looking to play a leadership role in TRLabs. Companies participating at this level have a broad spectrum of interests in ICT.
• Affiliate - for medium-to-large enterprises looking to complement their internal R&D efforts by tapping into a highly-leveraged, cutting-edge research program in ICT.
• Associate - for small-to-medium enterprises based in western Canada with revenues of less than $30M per year.
